Eating Disorder with Depression

Depression disturbs you in many ways. It disturbs your work, your daily activities, your ability to concentrate and your appetite as well. Eating Disorders are common when one has depression. Eating Disorder occurs due to the poor appetite of a depressed person. Studies have shown that the diagnosis of depression in people suffering from eating disorder, are more than one third to one half percent. In the same way if a person is suffering from eating disorder may also develop depression. Mainly there are three types of eating disorders namely:

  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Binge eating

Each type of eating disorder has different symptoms; the symptoms vary person to person. But most common symptoms that people generally exhibit are, stress, mental health illnesses, social displeasure etc. The symptoms are not severe and can be treated, if not treated timely then may cause serious physical or emotional problems.

Anorexia nervosa

People suffering from this type of eating disorder generally feel as if they are to fat. This is the unreasonable fear that people suffering from anorexia have; it does not heal by loosing weight or dieting. A proper treatment is needed in this sort of disorder. If left untreated it can cause severe physical problems like malnutrition, menstrual problems in women and may also cause death.

Bulimia nervosa

People suffering from this type of eating disorder usually eat large quantities and then purge or make themselves throw up to get rid of the food. The will also do extreme workouts and use laxatives in an effort to make up for what they eat. Apart from depression, gaining weight and stress are some causes for bulimia disorder. To ease away stresses people generally eat too much and soon after, realize that have overeaten. For relief they look for methods that can help them throw up the over eaten food. This results in more problems such as, dehydration, stomach or muscle cramps and also electrolyte imbalances, which harms nerve functioning.

Binge eating disorder

People suffering from this disorder are often found eating very quickly. They feel themselves out of control while eating. They are always worried about their food and often hide it from the reach of others. Patients are often found in a depressive state of mind because of guilt and self-disgust. Binge eating is very harmful for health. The main results of binge eating disorder are fatigue, high blood pressure, heart pain and pain in the joints etc.

Much like depression women are the ones that suffer from eating disorders. The biggest reason of women suffering from eating disorders is the improper use of dieting to look thin and beautiful. In the process of becoming lean and beautiful, women tend to restrict their diet too much. Too much dieting develops depression, stress, anxiety and eating disorders.
